Stephen’s all-road bike

Stephen’s all-road bike

“I’m afraid I can’t do that Dave……”

Stephen was looking for a build similar to my pink bike – matching the position and handling of his road bike, but with clearance for 35mm tires and fenders. To achieve this the frame has a curved seattube for rear wheel clearance, and modified s-bend chainstays for tire/chainring/rotor clearance. The integrated seatmast is custom externally butted before being curved, and features a third bottle cage mount on the rear.

The toptube is taper ovalised, and the custom seatstays are curved and mate up to Syntace X12 dropouts. A T47 BB shell allows room for the rear brake hose to run internally from the headtube to just in front of the caliper. Up front there is an Enve GRD fork with matching fender; a Tanaka rear fender closely matches the profile.

The real story with this one is the paint design. Stephen was inspired by the movie ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. We let Roger at Svelte Cycleworks loose with this theme, and then Eric at Colorworks was tasked with making it happen. A little help from Ruckus Composites got it done!

Final weight complete with fenders and pedals is 20lbs.
