I’m building a folding road bike for a customer, and he really wanted to have internal routing for the rear brake. This being a caliper brake mounted on the seatstay, normally I would use an external cable with a cable splitter to allow the seatstays to separate from the mainframe when folding the bike. So a solution was required. I took the Ultegra caliper and machined a new anchor piece and a custom cable clamp – this allows for the cable to be unhooked from the brake without disturbing the cable tension. The usual brake release function is preserved. Then the barrel adjuster and cable clamp remain with the mainframe whilst the caliper is folded up with the stays. Et Voila!
