Nick’s gravel frameset
Nick asked me to build him a gravel bike that would fit and handle similar to his road bike, but have clearance for 40mm tires. He also wanted to increase the corrosion protection without going to full stainless, so we settled on using stainless for all the hard points – headtube, seattube, dropouts, caliper mounts, bottle bosses, cable stops and BB shell. Being very happy with the feel of his road frame, this build uses the same Columbus Life oversize/bioval downtube, and custom ovalised toptube. The chainstays were extensively custom shaped to maximise tire clearance whilst maintaining space for a 2x crank. The seattube is offset on the BB shell to help with tire clearance without needing overly long chainstays.
For flexibility of brake options, the hose ports were supplied with machined inserts allowing for the use of mechanical or hydraulic calipers.
The fork is an Open U-turn, painted to match along with the frame by Colorworks. Nick built the bike up for a competitive sub 17lb weight.
