Jeffrey’s 650B FGC

Jeffrey’s 650B FGC

I have had the pleasure of working on a few builds with Jeffrey. With an upcoming trip to Italy to ride the Strade Bianche sportif, he asked if I could build him a gravel bike that would be easy to travel with. Which is what the FGC (Folding Gravel Concept) design is for! Jeffrey has a preference for 650B wheels, which makes the packing even easier into the airline-checkable case. Shown with 42mm tires here, there is clearance for up to 48mm.

For ease of adjustment on a trip, the bike has Growtac mechanical disc brake calipers. These are a little bulkier, so to have the folding system work as intended the dropouts are Paragon Machine Works UDH models, modified to use custom 160m direct mount flat mount bosses, then with the seatstays specially shaped so that they will fit around the caliper when they fold down.

A single ring, wireless SRAM drivetrain keeps things neat and simple. The matching custom stem has a Paragon faceplate to assist with removing the bars for packing.

Paint is by Colorworks, with contrast purple from Chris King and Wolftooth. The final weight is 17.8lbs.
