Craig’s stainless all-road frameset
When Craig and I first started discussing a custom build for him, we started at just a disc brake road bike. But when room for 38mm tires can be added without compromise, why not add that bit more capability. By carefully shaping the stays and offsetting the seattube forward on the BB shell, short chainstays could be maintained while allowing that larger clearance – still with room for a regular road double crankset.
Craig liked the idea of an integrated seatmast – we discussed the various options for adjusting the saddle height (external cap, internal cap, very short regular seatpost), and landed on using a cut down post with a regular seatpost clamp. The seatstays are dropped, sitting parallel to the downtube, with an additional bend at the lower end to provide clearance for the brake caliper.
Tubing is stainless steel from KVA, with custom shaping – biovalised downtube and ovalised toptube, chainstays manipulated to clear tire and chainrings. There is a custom headset to pair with the tapered steerer of the Allied carbon fork.
The finish is brushed with beadblasted logos and a raw carbon fork.
