Ash’s climbing bike
For his second bike, Ash wanted a climbing specific build for his favorite Italian Gran Fondo that features many classic mountain passes. The position is set for where he feels optimised for efficient uphill riding. Then the tubing was carefully selected to provide the required ride quality whilst keeping the weight as low as possible.
A NOS Enve 1.0 fork is up front, with an Extralite headset and stem. Lightweight parts from Bjorn are found with the handlebars, seatpost, saddle and bottle cage, then a complete Campagnolo Super Record mechanical groupset completes the build, along with Campy carbon tubular wheels (held in place by Extralite skewers).
The paint was a big project, with a lot of work to trace the topo lines and routes into forms that could fit onto the tubes undertaken by Roger at Svelte Cycleworks. Then Colorworks skillfully executed the design, using the colors of the Italian flag.
Final weight is 14.1lbs.
