TransAm kit

By popular request (well, Scott asked anyway….), here is a list of everything I wore/carried on the TransAm:

And that is it! I was going to carry a spare tire (pictured), but when I took the tires off to install a fresh set for the race, I was so impressed with how the Schwalbe Pro Ones had held up in training that I decided having the dynaplugs, patches and spare tubes would be sufficient to get me to a bike shop if a major tire problem occurred.

I ended up only using the wool baselayer – it never got that hot on the days that I was riding; I only took the knee warmers off once too I think. I had the second, thinner base layer to avoid getting sunburnt through the mesh in the San Remo suit. Didn’t need the spare socks either, but those might have been nice had it rained……

My kit selection was pretty good – I used almost everything, and was (just!) warm enough the whole time – a little shivery when it was 37 degrees coming down the McKenzie pass, but otherwise fine.
