2017 news!

Firstly, I am very happy to announce that I will be exhibiting at the premier UK handbuilt bike show, Bespoked, in April. It has been six years since I last took a trip back home, so I’m looking forward to catching up with friends and family, and excited to be at Bespoked for the first time. The show is the 7th, 8th and 9th of April, come along and say hi if you can make it!

Secondly, I have a major racing goal for this year…. (deep breath) I will be racing the TransAm in June. 4300 miles across the country, entirely unsupported. I previously toured the route in 2003, taking 33 days whilst carrying full camping gear and taking my time. For the race I will be traveling ultralight and hoping to complete the distance in about half that time. I am working on a fully custom bike with specific features to optimise it for this task.

Nothing like a healthy dose of fear – my motivation for training is higher than it has been in many years! The weather here is making it somewhat challenging to get the hours in, but hopefully the snow will melt soon :-

I am hoping to have a few partners for this endeavor – so far Castelli have kindly come forward to provide me with kit for the event, and I hope to announce others soon.

  1. What are you planning to do for ultralight sleeping/shelter? I may have some suggestions. I’m curious what the clothing strategy may be? Looking forward to see your design because I was thinking for my build to incorporate an ability to carry light loads for trans-Canada one day.
