Racing news – several people asked for a report on the Mk2 TT bike once I had it on the road, and I can now say that it is a winner! I did race it once back in May, but there were a few things that needed tweaking and adjusting (headset, front brake, crank – all the prototype parts!), and it took a while for me to have time to do that. I finally got it all sorted a couple of weeks ago, which gave me enough time to train and get confident on it before the Oregon State TT Championships last Sunday.
I have raced the TT on the same 40km course for the last seven seasons. I finished second in 2007 and 2008, then won three times from 2009 to 2011 (setting the course record of 51:08 in 2011). Last year I was third, so was hoping to bounce back this year. The new bike was great – the position isn’t much changed from my previous machine, just a little narrower which I actually find more comfortable. I’m definitely a big fan of Di2 for TT bikes, the custom buttons on the extensions make shifting very easy. Unfortunately over half the course was chip-sealed this year, which is a big shame, since the previous surface was lovely and smooth and fast. Given the slower surface, I was really pleased to stop the clock in 51:39 (29mph average speed), which gave me the win by a margin of 1:14. And to complete a great day out for English Cycles, my teammate Lee finished third to join me on the podium!

Excellent to see a builder who is just as fast as his bikes! Congrats on taking back the title.
