Well that was a busy weekend… Yesterday was the inaugural Oregon Gran Fondo, over 117 miles of beautiful forest roads starting and ending in Cottage Grove. I wasn’t sure how it would play out, but it ended up being a fast social ride, with one timed hillclimb early on, and then a full race for the last 35 miles. I ended up in a group of five on the final climb, attacked and only Graham came with me. We rode the last five flat miles together, then he just barely pipped me in the sprint, but it didn’t really matter. I think I got the KOM hillclimb, but waiting for the results to see. I had had ideas of riding the 30 miles home too, but last week I got asked to ride the OBRA TTT with a composite team, so got a lift to save a legs a little!
Fortunately the rain held off for the time trial, on a new single loop 28.8 mile course. Jeff had put together a strong team, so it was fun going fast (average speed was almost 29.5mph), and we romped round to win by four minutes. I was surprised how well my legs felt today considering yesterday – I have been using Push Endurance recovery drink, and it really did seem to help with getting the body ready to go hard again so soon.
nice work bud!
