Scott’s all-road travel bike
Scott asked me to build him a bike that would pack for travel, be easy to live with and allow for various tire options for various terrain. Whilst disc brakes are great, and mechanical versions remove the worry about traveling with hydraulics, it is still a bit trickier making sure the rotors don’t get dinged in transit. So we decided to use rim brakes, using the limited edition Cane Creek EE ‘gravel’ brake that gives clearance up to around a 44mm tire. These use a variation of the direct mount standard, and so a custom steel fork was required to match the frame.
The frame uses the usual FRC (Folding Road Concept) system of allowing the chainstays to fold under the mainframe and the seatstays to fold flat above them. Then the frame/fork/stem can drop into the case as one unit, with one wheel below and one on top.
Wireless shifting makes it very easy to remove the rear derailleur, and 1x (via SRAM’s XPLR groupset) keeps thing simpler still.
Wheels were built up using White Industries hubs and Hed rims, shod with 34mm Schwalbe tires. FSA supplied the cockpit.
Paint – including Scott’s custom graphic for the headtube – is by Colorworks, and the weight as shown is 18.5lbs.
