Mark’s Pinion bike
Mark asked me to build him a flatbar bike with room for big (2.4″) tires, based around the 18spd Pinion gearbox. He had the Hed wheelset, but I rebuilt the rear around an Onyx hub – the Pinion freewheel has a fairly large engagement stroke, so using an instant engagement rear hub works well for the riding experience. Paragon rocker dropouts take care of tensioning the Gates beltdrive, with a custom seatstay attachment on the driveside to enable belt installation.
Brian at Kaibab Customs created the full-size framebag to Mark’s specs, which is bolted in place to the standard bolt cage bosses on the seattube and downtube, and ‘hidden’ internally brazed bosses under the toptube.
Clean and simple gloss white paint by Colorworks. Final weight is 28lbs with the bag and pedals.
