John’s Pinion commuter
John asked me to build him a fully equipped super-commuter, with geometry to match the position he required, and based around the Pinion 18spd gearbox. He also requested some curved tubes in the frame for a unique appearance. The fully enclosed gearbox keeps the gearing weatherproof, as does the Gates beltdrive, driving a silent-running Onyx rear hub.
To keep with the no-maintenance theme (no batteries to charge), we have a SON SL generator front hub, which fits into a custom fork with special dropouts that provide the electrical connection to the lights. The front light is on the fork crown, with the power to the rear run internally all the way up to the saddle where the light is mounted on a custom bracket between the saddle rails.
Pinion don’t offer a shifter for dropbars, but fortunately Co-motion make a custom twist shifter that mounts next to the stem.
The frame has Paragon sliding dropouts for tensioning the belt, with a modified PDW kickstand mounting on the left side using the dropout bolt. Full fenders and a rear rack complete the ready-for-anything build!
