Jeffrey’s gravel truss bike
Jeffrey was interested in a build using the limited edition Cane Creek EE gravel brakes – this brake takes the great performance of the EE rim brake and widens the direct mount studs to clear tires up to around 45mm. To fit the brake, provide good tire clearance and keep a low crown height, I designed a truss fork that results in a lightweight, efficient triangulated structure for the fork. There are custom dropouts for the Mavic Speed Release system, which provides the security of a thru-axle with the convenience of a quick-release. The truss layout helps distribute the forces between the top and bottom of the headtube, allowing for a lighter steerer tube to be used – in this case it is titanium.
At the rear of the bike, the truss theme is continued with the chainstays. Here the double-stacked small diameter tubes help with providing chainring and tire clearance. The Syntace dropouts were modified to also use the Speed Release system.
For good braking the wheels use Hed Belgium rims laced to Onyx hubs for silent running. Shifting is provided by SRAM’s XPLR AXS wireless components. Kaibab Customs sewed the custom framebag which is secured to the frame by magnets.
The paint scheme is an homage to Jeffrey’s first Peugeot road bike, executed by Colorworks. And the final weight is 19.4lbs complete with pedals.
Oh this is just so good on so many levels a real triumph of a bicycle. modern, retro and it all just looks perfect
