James’ road bike

James asked me to build him a versatile road bike. The brief was for a bike that could be road-raced, have fenders added for training, and be able to fit larger tires if required for gravel. We decided to include fully internal hose routing using Enve’s system – their AR fork has fender mounts and will fit up to a 35mm tire. This pairs with the Enve headset and one-piece bar/stem.
The frame has an oversize headtube to accommodate the Enve system, a round downtube, custom ovalised toptube, and a slanted top to the seattube, angled to match the seatstays. The groupset is from Shimano, with an FSA crankset to save a little weight. Portland Design Works fenders nicely cover the 30mm tires.
The paint is inspired by a classic Porsche, beautifully applied by Colorworks. With the fenders as shown the bike weighs 18.7lbs.
