Andy’s stainless city cruiser

Andy’s stainless city cruiser

Andy asked me to build him a road bike for sitting upright for easy recovery rides around town. We settled on a full stainless steel frame and fork – the first segmented fork I have built, which was required to give room for the fender to fit.

The bike features a belt drive with the Classified 2spd hub – this gives a wireless shifted internally geared hub with the electronics and battery embedded into the thru-axle. Thus the somewhat unusual combination of thru-axles and rim brakes. The frame is built to the correct chainstay length for the chosen gear ratio, so no need to worry about adjusting the belt tension. There is a split in the seatstay for belt installation.

The good folk at Btchn’ Bikes produced the titanium handlebar and seatpost, complete with custom anodising. They kindly applied the same finish to the Cane Creek cranks and Silca bottle cages too.

Including the fenders and a more substantial saddle to suit the upright position, the bike weighs in at 18.4lbs.
