Custom built road wheels

I have been building wheels for over 16 years, and bring this experience and my engineering
background to build tight, durable wheels to match the rider and their intending riding. From
superlight road race wheels to expedition mountain bike wheels, I am happy to discuss any
requirements.

My favorite hubs to build with for lightweight wheels are made in Italy by Extralite. And yes
they are very light! Another European option are the M5 lightweight hubs. However, I can
also build using Shimano, Campagnolo, DT, American Classic, Powertap or most other
hubs as required. For 2010 there are two new road hubsets available, both offering solid
durability with reasonably low weights: Chris King needs no introduction, and with the recent
introduction of the R45 road hubs they bring their considerable expertise to the road rider.
Alchemy are relatively new, but their hub design is an uncompromised piece of engineering,
offering great rolling with durability.

For rims I am using Utah based Edge Composites excellent products. With internal nipples
and co-molded spoke holes, these are a very strong, yet lightweight choice for a carbon rim.
Other options are available as required.

For spokes I generally use DT (aerolite) or Sapim (Cx-ray), but can also offer Pillar titanium
bladed spokes for additional weight savings.

For quick release skewers to match the wheels I have found the superlight (38g/pair)
Enigma titanium models from the UK.

Whilst I can build wheels to suit your personal preference for hubs, rims, spokes and lacing
patterns, here are some standard builds that I would recommend:

1.25 Edge tubular
rims on M5/Extralite hubs
1.65 Edge tubular
rims on M5 hubs
45 Edge clincher
rims on Extralite SX hubs
45 Edge clincher
rims on Alchemy ELF/ORC hubs
45 Edge clincher
rims on Chris King R45 hubs
